Expansion of Existing Aircraft Maintenance Facilities for Lufthansa Technik Sofia, Sofia Airport
The project includes several Sub-projects: Reconstruction and extension of existing Checkpoint and adjoining parking lot, Reconstruction, extension and superstructure of existing Service building and Construction of a new Hangar (Hangar 1).
The reconstructed checkpoint with a canopy and the adjoining parking will be used by employ- ees and visitors of Lufthansa’s aircraft mainatainance complex. The reception hall of the check- point includes two working places and a reception desk for visitors as well as two check-lines equipped with a scanner and a metaldetector. Sanitary facilities and security premises are also provided.The area of the reconstructed foyer is 76 m2

The built up area of the reconstructed checkpoint building along with the canopy is 200m2.
The parking lot design includes new traffic and marking organization with controlled access from the existing entry/exit and an internal street for complex access through the checkpoint. The reconstruction of the 5 427m2 parking includes replacement of pavement, new road mark- ing, new drainage and site lightning. A total of 115 car parking places are provided, 2 – for TIRs, 40 – for motorcycles, 25 - for bicycles as well as 6 parking places for disabled people with a suitable route to the checkpoint and all the premises in the building.

The service building consists of a basement, five above ground floors and roof installation premises. It is multifunctional and contains office premises, workshops, a canteen with kitchen and catering. As a service building for the complex it houses the main administrative, person- nel and sanitary premises. The reconstructed and superstructed existing building is situated to the South of the existing Hangar 2, Hangar 2-extension and Hangar 1A, and to the West of the existing Hangar 3. The extension includes a one-storey building – a communication corridor – to the North of the main five-storey building, serving as a functional connection to the above-men- tioned hangars as well as to the newly designed Hangar 1, situated to the West.
Total build up area: 12 661.47 m2.
Hangar 1 consists of three docks for narrowbody aircrafts type Airbus A320, Boeing 737 and other aircrafts Code C, and respectively one dock for widebody aircrafts type Airbus A380-900 (B747-8,B777-300ER,A330-300 и A340-600) in position on jacks, along with the ad- jacent areas and infrastructure ( Hangar 01). The tail-house is subject of a future design.
