Fortification of slope zones A, B and C of Alley First against erosion, Seaside park, Varna
The slope fortification of the seaside alley in Varna is one of the most large-scaled fortification events of recent years in the municipality of Varna and the region. The area of strengthening is divided technically in the three zones – A, B and C, with a total length 1105 m from the last quay after “Pochivka” quarter in south direction. The process represents a part of the overall strengthening and stabilization of the segment of Alley first. The operations are funded by “Holding Varna” JSC, as the fulfillment of the first three zones amounts to 20 million leva. The project is coordinated and approved by Varna municipality and district administration. Construction has started after the granting of the relevant construc- tion permits and acts under the Law of territory planning.
Technoimportexport, as a main contractor, organized, managed and controlled the realization of the investment project from design stage to construction, on the fortification of the slope zones A, B and C of Alley 1st in Varna Seaside park against erosion. Construction works are performed in two directions – drainage of the slope (grip of all underwater and surface waters in sewerage system, and leading them away to the sea) and its subsequent fortification. Drainage of slope is fulfilled by vertical drainage wells with a diameter of 60 cm and the height 32-35 m of the upper panoramic alley to the sea level. They are drained with horizontal drilling with a diameter of about 12 cm and length – 30m.
Water is leaded away in drainage collector outside the heel of the slope, which then picks up and surface water from the fortificated shore slope by protective ditches found grooves and sewage PVC pipes, and conveys water into the sea, by three discharges in the alley.
The emergency fortification of the slope consists of:
• Fortification wall, representing highly reinforced rectangular concrete section with a width 80 cm and a height 7.5 m, set on the reinforced concrete pilots with a diameter of 80 cm and a depth of 7.5 m, axle at 1 meter distance from one another;
• Subsequently the wall is grounded to slope with steel anchors, injected with cement solution with a length of 24 m and a diameter of about 8.5 cm;
• The slope from the face of the wall to the top edge of the segment is dressed with special coastal strenghtening steel nets and reinforced-concreted grids which are grassed by hydrosowing, and individual sections are planted with special, erosive strengthening plants under the task of planting to the main project. The nets are form-fitted for concrete beams with a length of 3 to 8 m and cross-section of 35 to 60 cm, outings to upper edge the slope up to the panorama alley;
• All these construction activities are carried out in sequence from the south to the north for a smaller range of the construction site, facilitated movement along the coast and minimised discomfort for the citizens and guests of the city. After the completion of each stage the respective site has been cleaned for easy access of all to the final acceptance of the project for the exploitation;
The panoramic pedestrian alley was also restored and renewed, including new public lightning installation, park benches along the alley, sports grounds with modern fitness device, total replacement of the safety fence. The recently neglected area is already a welcoming place for walks and sports. There are three sports grounds with shock absorbing covering. They are located along the panorama alley and are equipped with modern fitness equipment. 30% of the facilities are designed for people with special traction needs. All instruments can be used completely free of the residents and guests of the sea capital.
In the background of the beautiful panoramic view, the alley offers 10 sites with commemora- tive signs, which present achievements of Varna athletes. The concept of the content of commemorative plates is of the local sports community, which embraced the idea of a peculiar Alley of the sports glory.
The buildings are planned for the next stage of the building process. They are selected after an open contest for planning the “First Alley” project and are evaluated on the basis of their techni- cal parameters, architectural design and cost of building.
